Chestnut Trees in Narberth

Chestnut trees were all the way up North Wynnewood Avenue. At Sabine Avenue and Wynnewood Avenue on the west side, there were two huge Chestnut trees with huge nuts, which people wanted. They were tremendous trees. You couldn't walk for the chestnuts. My father cut many hundreds down in the blight. Trees as big as oaks.
On Sabine Avenue there were many Chestnut trees, too. I would take with me on the way to school two or three 12-pound empty flour sacks and would fill them with chestnuts, take them to school and have them there.
